Abstract:
I describe the recently developed effective field theory framework for the interaction of heavy quarks in a strongly coupled quark-gluon plasma. The latter is treated as a relativistic non-dissipative colorless fluid which is encapsulated in a derivatively coupled effective field theory. Coupling this fluid to heavy quarks provides a systematic way to  describe the interaction between a heavy quark and thermal excitations of the fluid. I will show results for the quasiparticle width of a heavy quark as function of velocity, for phonon-heavy quark scattering, and for the thermalization of a moving heavy quark.
