Content Rydberg-state atoms provide strong electric dipole-dipole interaction (DDI), due to the polarizability being enhanced by an electron in a highly-excited state far away from the nucleus. The DDI between Rydberg atoms leads to the blockade effect. As an atom is excited to a Rydberg state, inside the sphere of the blockade radius containing this excited atom, excitation of another atom is strongly suppressed due to the energy level is shifted away by the DDI. Therefore, strong interaction among photons can be realized via the dipole blockade effect of Rydberg atoms. Utilizing Rydberg-state atoms in nonlinear optics and quantum optics has gained more popular and attracted much attention recently. This workshop will focus on the EIT effect in Rydberg media, Förster resonances, Rydberg-EIT spectra with room-temperature atoms, DDI of cold Rydberg atoms with slow or stored light, and relevant subjects in many-body physics, nonlinear optics, and quantum optics.
